Platforms such as Instacart thrive by underpaying workers and actively engaging in strategies to weaken labor power (such as the financing of Prop 22) and charging hefty fees from merchants and grocery stores. This article takes a close look at the levels of injustice and exploitation that underlies Instacart becoming an essential infrastructure during Covid-19 and a lucrative investment opportunity. It, thereby, calls for worker organization, better consumer choices, legislative measures and alternative infrastructures that are not predicated on worker exploitation.
